We had so much fun doing the Genetic Genealogy Book Club this past winter that we’ve decided to offer two more sessions this spring. We hope you’ll join us
The Book Club is open to any Kentucky Genealogical Society member. (Not a member yet? It’s easy to join and only costs $20.) You don’t have to have participated in any previous discussions, and you’re welcome to come to either of these upcoming meetings – or both! We’ll cap the number of participants at 15 per session so that everyone will have a chance to participate actively. Sign-up is first come, first serve.
To ensure that our conversations are lively and enjoyable, we ask that you commit to reading each book in full before the relevant session.
Here’s when we’ll meet and what we’ll discuss:
•28 April, 7pm EST – Nathan Dylan Goodwin’s The Sawtooth Slayer. This fast-paced novel is the second book in Goodwin’s Venator series and is a fun and exciting read. (Print | Ebook | Audio)
•26 May, 7pm EST – Edward Hume’s The Forever Witness: How DNA and Genealogy Solved a Cold Case Double Murder. We’ve previously read Barbara Rae-Venter’s I Know Who You Are, which focused on the actual IGG process. In Hume’s book, we see the case from the perspective of the victims’ families and the law enforcement officers tasked not only with identifying the killer but also building a solid case that will stand up in court. To register:
1. Sign into the member portal of the KYGS website.
2. From the top right-hand navigation menu, choose “Members”, then “Participate”, then “Join a Front Porch Talks Group”.
3. Scroll down to find the sign-up form. Choose the last option in the checklist: “Genetic Genealogy Winter Book Club” and complete.
(Note: We won’t discuss the science of genetic genealogy in detail. This book club is about the human side of this exciting new technology. If you’re interested in the nuts and bolts of genetic genealogy, you might want to join our Front Porch Talk group on “All Things DNA”. It meets the 3rd Thursday of every month.)
