Understand the extent and importance of a Spanish-speaking heritage and learn about basic tools and sources available while finding the origin of an immigrant ancestor.

What You Will Learn

Spanish is the third most spoken first language in the world after Chinese and Hindi. It is also the official or national language of 21 countries.  According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there were about 42 million people who spoke Spanish at home in the United States in 2019. This presentation covers these main topics:

  • Extent and influence of the Spanish speaking population of the world
  • Basic sources for discovering a Spanish speaking heritage
  • Importance of Spanish genealogical research and availability of records
  • Tools for finding the origin of a Spanish-speaking immigrant
  • Tools for learning/relearning Spanish for genealogical research

Chairman of the Board of Directors of The Family History Guide Association. Presenter at Expos and Conferences around the U.S. Canada and Europe. Presenter of over 400 genealogy videos on YouTube. Lived for two years in Argentina and two years in Panama, Taught Spanish for five years at Mesa Community College in Mesa, Arizona. Have spent more than twenty years assisting people with Spanish language research in almost every Spanish speaking country of the world. Took BYU University course in Spanish genealogical research. As an attorney, I represented hundreds of Spanish speaking clients.
