UK Libraries, Newspapers, Oral History, and Kentucky Genealogy

This presentation will focus on Kentucky newspapers, oral histories, and archives retained in the University of Kentucky Special Collections.

What You Will Learn

In this presentation, Kopana Terry will cover the UK Libraries’ mission, and then dive into their newspaper collections – microfilm and digital – oral history collections and how Kentucky genealogists can access, search, and contribute to the collections as well as how they can access other archival holdings.

Speaker

Kopana Terry is the Oral History Archivist and Curator of Newspapers at the University of Kentucky Special Collections Research Center. She holds a BA in Fine Art and a Master’s in Library and Information Science. She will complete her Master’s of Historic Preservation and Graduate Certificate in Appalachian Studies in May 2025, all from the University of Kentucky. Her research focuses on Place, Identity, and Natural Disasters in Appalachia.
