SUMMARY:Immigrant Ancestry: Naturalization Records of KDLA
DESCRIPTION:What You Will Learn\nDeclarations of Intent\, Petitions for Naturalization\, first papers\, second papers\, derivative citizenship\, what does it all mean? This presentation will offer some context for the course by which an individual would become an American Citizen and help to clarify the meaning of these terms\, and others you may run across in your search for your immigrant ancestry. Perhaps more importantly you will be given some ideas of the possible places you might look for the documents confirming their citizenship and methods by which to begin your hunt. \nSpeaker\nRusty Heckaman is the State Archivist and Director of the Archives and Records Management Division of the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives. He manages the archival collections of the State of Kentucky\, which includes material from local\, state\, and judicial records that capture the history of the Commonwealth’s governance and the interactions of its peoples with that government. Originally from Indiana\, Rusty is a graduate of Indiana University with his Master’s in Library Science.
