What You Will Learn
Genealogists can’t help but tell stories. Sometimes it’s the story of the detective work they did to discover a particularly hard-to-find ancestor. Sometimes it’s about the ancestors themselves, and the glimpses into their lives that research revealed. But there are always stories. Telling a family story well means delving into new a new set of skills: the skills of the historian, the biographer, and the storyteller. In this session, Tattershall will draw on his experience as a journalist and author to talk about getting started and staying on track to transform your family tree into an engaging family history. We’ll talk about the elements of a good story, how to research with storytelling in mind, how to choose the right outlet and format, and the process of creating your final product.
