Some of the earliest colonial legal battles and statutes shaped the origins of slavery in what would become the United States and inadvertently left traces of family histories. One of the family’s descendants settled in Kentucky.
Speaker
Cynthia Maharrey is a professional genealogist specializing in court, deed, probate, tax and vital records research. Her wheelhouses include the late 18th through the early 20th centuries, with emphases on the state of Kentucky and African American research. A graduate of Berea College, she also holds a certificate in Genealogical Research from Boston University and is a certified Kentucky Community Scholar. Cynthia previously served on the boards of the Kentucky Genealogical Society and the Association of Professional Genealogists and continues as a member in good standing of both organizations. She is also a member of other genealogical and historical societies in Kentucky and West Virginia.
