Digging into Kentucky’s Early Tax Records

Understand the value of tax lists for evidence analysis with your research.

What You Will Learn

Kentucky Tax Lists are an undervalued resource that can provide both direct and indirect evidence in our quest to understand our Ancestors. When utilized with other resources, the puzzle pieces can come together, and brick walls need not arise in many instances. When utilized with other resources, we can better understand our families history. The focus of this presentation is to identify and explore the various clues that can be found in these records and how they can add to timelines, family units, land details and even members of the FAN club.

Linda Colston, a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, has been researching for over 30 years. She has her own business, Twin Oaks Genealogy, which focuses on Kentucky and surrounding states. She has worked at the Martin F. Schmidt Research Library at the Kentucky History Center. Linda was one of the primary genealogists for the Kentucky Ancestors show. Currently, Linda serves as 1st Vice Regent of the Frankfort Chapter of the DAR. In the past, she has served as President, and other Board positions in the Kentucky Genealogical Society.
