SUMMARY:Bringing Back Mount Gilead: Exploring an Extinct Town with a One Place Study
DESCRIPTION:What You Will Learn\nFounded by four brothers in 1809\, Mount Gilead\, KY grew into a thriving farming community with a church\, post office\, and multiple general stores by late 1800s. Today\, all that remains is the church cemetery\, often overgrown\, and a few original farmhouses. Take a deep dive into this extinct place and learn the power of the One Place Study\, the records it can help you uncover\, and the sense of community that it brings to family history research\, as well as pitfalls to avoid when getting started on your own research. \nSpeaker\nJames Meyers has been a family historian and genealogist ever since the high school summer when his grandfather shared the family history and took him to the local library\, which happened to be the Allen County Public Library. After dabbling in it for many years\, he fell in love with the hobby again after the birth of his daughter in 2019\, and hasn’t looked back since then. He is currently a volunteer with the Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia in their genealogy library\, a Project Coordinator with WikiTree’s Indiana Project\, a co-leader with the Kentucky Genealogical Society Front Porch Talks KY Pre-1850 Ancestors\, and an advocate for open and collaborative genealogy research. \nRegistration Form\nMembers\nBringing Back Mount Gilead: Exploring an Extinct Town with a One Place Study12 Oct\, 2026j M\, Y7:00pm EDT2026-10-12T23:00:00Zg:ia T1 hour\n \n \n First NameLast NameEmailSign me up to the mailing listAre you sure you want to register for this webinar?\nNot a Member?\nIf you are not a member\, you can choose to join the Society and attend this webinar for free.
