KGS Digitization Grants Program
Round 1 Application Deadline: November 1, 2019
Recipients announced: January 13, 2020
If your genealogical society, historical society, or historical records repository or archive has records to digitize but the money just isn’t in the budget, consider applying for the Kentucky Genealogical Society Digitization Grant.
KGS is launching this new program to help increase the number of Kentucky historical records available online – especially records with genealogical significance.
The total grant funding for the first round of applications is $5,000. Individual grant amounts will vary depending on need.
About the Grants Program
What? The Kentucky Genealogical Society is launching a digitization grant program to encourage and inspire the digitization of records of a genealogical nature. Projects must relate to Kentucky historical records of genealogical significance. Digitization projects could range in scope from traditional to non-traditional genealogical records. Examples include local or organization newspapers, local directories, school or organization yearbooks, local records, church records, organization records, school records, trade or vocational records, and more.
How? Applicants commit to digitizing the records and making at least one copy of the digital records available to the Kentucky Genealogical Society. KGS will host those records online via the KGS web site and make them accessible to researchers who are members of the Kentucky Genealogical Society.
Why? This program aligns with the Kentucky Genealogical Society’s mission of preservation, sharing, and connecting. We want to encourage and inspire organizations to digitize their records and make those records accessible to genealogical researchers.
